Pillows Care & Maintenance Guide
At Pump Textiles, our pillows are crafted to deliver long-lasting neck comfort, ergonomic support, and clean sleep hygiene. Because quality textiles perform best with attentive care, we have compiled this comprehensive pillow maintenance guide for British households.
1. Unboxing & Initial Fluffing
- Unboxing: When you remove your new pillow from its sealed protective packaging, gently knead and fluff the pillow with both hands to reintroduce air into the inner fibres.
- Aeration: Allow the pillow to air out flat in a well-ventilated bedroom for 3 to 4 hours before dressing it in a pillowcase. This allows compressed fills to rebound to full loft naturally.
2. Daily & Weekly Pillow Maintenance
- Daily Fluffing: Give your pillows a quick daily fluff from opposite sides when making your bed. This redistributes the internal fibre clusters, prevents clumping, and restores air pockets.
- Sun & Fresh Air: Every 4 to 6 weeks, place your pillows near an open window or outdoors on a dry, sunny afternoon for a couple of hours. Natural sunlight and fresh air neutralise moisture and naturally refresh the inner fills.
3. Washing Guidelines (Always Check Sewn-in Care Labels)
- Microfibre & Hollowfibre Fill Pillows: Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30°C to 40°C using a mild, non-biological liquid detergent. Run an additional rinse cycle to ensure all detergent residue is removed.
- Never Use Bleach: Bleaching agents degrade structural synthetic fibres and discolour cotton covers.
- Memory Foam or Moulded Ergonomic Pillows: Never submerge foam cores in water or place them in a washing machine. Spot-clean with a damp cloth only. Removable zippered fabric covers may be machine washed at 30°C.
4. Drying & Ironing Warnings
- Tumble Drying (Fibre Fill Only): Tumble dry strictly on a Low Heat / Air Cycle only. Adding clean dryer balls helps separate fibres. Ensure the pillow core is 100% dry before use.
- Never Iron: Do not iron pillows or their inner covers; intense heat destroys synthetic fibres and melt-blown hygiene barriers.
- Do Not Dry Clean: Commercial solvents damage pillow fillings.
Replacement Recommendation: Even premium pillows gradually lose structural resilience over time. We recommend replacing everyday sleeping pillows every 18 to 24 months to maintain proper spinal alignment and optimal hygiene.
